GL225 - Batteries for general practical circuit work
This guidance is for choosing batteries for general practical circuit work, where pupils experiment with low-voltage circuits by connecting batteries , torch bulbs, buzzers, small motors and other low-power components to investigate electrical characteristics, parallel and series circuits, etc.

In this practical work, short-circuits are likely to happen, particularly by pupils new to this. (A short-circuit is a direct connection across both power supply terminals, eg by connecting each end of a cylindrical battery directly with a wire.)
Updated in August 2016 to include PP3-type batteries
