PP049 - Paper chromatography; the separation of pH indicators
It is becoming increasingly difficult to determine the composition of food dyes in an unknown mixture, because formulations have been altered over time, and, as a consequence, the results never match what is shown in text books. In response to this problem we have developed method using pH indicators that produces suitable results and can be run within one lesson, leaving enough time to analyse and discuss the outcomes.
