Science Technician - Biology (Fixed-term) (Temporary - Part Time - Term Time Only) £12,218-12,218

Main Duties:
  • Preparing science experiments as requested
  • Setting up and trialling apparatus as requested.
  • Routine maintenance of equipment including basic first line fault finding and repairs.
  • Able to carry out risk assessments for technician activities.
  • Ordering equipment.
  • Liasing with the purchasing department to follow best practice.
  • Ensuring the labs are kept tidy and stocked with textbooks, stationery and reporting any maintenance issues to estates.

Person Specification:
  • A genuine interest in Biology and a willingness to further develop expertise in this field.
  • Experience of working within a school or educational setting is desirable.
  • Previous experience working as a Science or Biology technician is desirable
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, equipment maintenance, and preparation of materials for lessons and experiments
  • Strong practical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to set up, test, and troubleshoot apparatus accurately and efficiently.
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with teaching staff, students, and external suppliers.
  • Competence in the use of IT systems for record keeping, inventory management, and communication
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload independently while meeting deadlines.
  • Has an understanding of health and safety practices and a willingness to develop this knowledge further through training and experience.
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to work as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, reliability, and a proactive attitude to supporting the department’s needs.
