Science Technician - Biology (Fixed-term) (Temporary - Part Time - Term Time Only) £12,218-12,218

Main Duties:

Preparing science experiments as requested
Setting up and trialling apparatus as requested.
Routine maintenance of equipment including basic first line fault finding and repairs.
Able to carry out risk assessments for technician activities.
Ordering equipment.
Liasing with the purchasing department to follow best practice.
Ensuring the labs are kept tidy and stocked with textbooks, stationery and reporting any maintenance issues to estates.
Ordering, issuing, recording textbooks and collecting student textbooks returns.
Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of stock.

Person Specification:

A genuine interest in Biology and a willingness to further develop expertise in this field.
Experience of working within a school or educational setting is desirable.
Previous experience working as a Science or Biology technician is desirable
Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, equipment maintenance, and preparation of materials for lessons and experiments
Strong practical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to set up, test, and troubleshoot apparatus accurately and efficiently.
Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with teaching staff, students, and external suppliers.
Competence in the use of IT systems for record keeping, inventory management, and communication
Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload independently while meeting deadlines.
Has an understanding of health and safety practices and a willingness to develop this knowledge further through training and experience.
A collaborative approach with the ability to work as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility, reliability, and a proactive attitude to supporting the department’s needs.
