Science Technician (Term Time Only)
£30,000-34,000 (pro rata)

Hours: Full time
Main Duties:
- To support the teaching of Biology within the department
- To work collaboratively with the other technician to offer seamless technical and logistical assistance
- To set up all the apparatus, equipment and resources necessary for the practical work undertaken by the pupils, liaising closely with the teaching staff responsible
- After the practical to clear away and store properly all the apparatus and equipment
- To maintain the laboratories in a clean and tidy condition and checking services periodically reporting any deficiencies or defects to the Head of Department and/or Maintenance Team
- • To assist in stock taking and ordering of apparatus / equipment and to check deliveries from suppliers and report discrepancies
- The department also has a number of live plants and animals which require appropriate care
- To manage all necessary cleaning, care and repair of equipment and keep cupboards / drawers clean and stocked as required
- To monitor the working environment with regards to Health & Safety, to make recommendations where necessary and support the secure and safe use of apparatus within the department
- To carry out other duties appropriate to his/her experience and ability which the Head of Department might reasonably expect from time to time.

- A knowledge of CLEAPSS guidance or willingness to be trained in the health and safety aspects of a safe laboratory environment
- A genuine interest in helping pupils to develop safe Biology skills to enable them to reach their full potential and assisting them as required

- Be flexible and adaptable in order to meet the ever-changing needs and priorities
- Should be comfortable attending to the care of live animals (including snakes) and handling experimental specimens

Science Technician (Part Time - Term Time Only)

Main Duties:
- Assisting teachers by preparing the materials, solutions and apparatus requested for practical work
- Safely clearing, cleaning and disposing of materials following practical work.
- The heath and safety aspects of the science department, including storage, risk assessment and compliance with CLEAPSS and COSHH guidelines.
- Maintaining equipment and being responsible for ordering stock.
- Assisting when required in practical work with the pupils as requested by the science team.
- Assisting in making the science labs a safe and welcoming area for pupils by contributing to display work.
