TL006 - Making esters
Many esters have distinctive odours, which has led to their use as artificial flavourings, perfumes and fragrances. Many occur naturally but some are now manufactured industrially. The methods outlined in this guide illustrate two ways of enabling GCSE pupils to produce and experience the wonderful aromas of esters whilst significantly reducing the hazard from using concentrated acid.
