PP059 - Micro-electrolysis of copper(II) chloride solution
The electrolysis of copper(II) chloride solution was cited in many GCSE exemplar procedures. With large-scale equipment, the volume of chlorine produced, caused breathing difficulties for some students. Work with chlorine on this scale should be carried out in fume cupboard, but, by using a microscale procedure, the activity can be carried out in the open laboratory with suitable warnings.
